SafeHands® Instant Hand Sanitizer
keeps alcohol out of the hands of children

January 28, 2007

BOCA RATON, Fla. -– SafeHands' introduction of alcohol-free instant hand sanitizers is timely in light of the recent ban on alcohol instant hand sanitizers in Lee County, Florida schools. Officials in Lee County stated, in a January 12, 2007 Channel 5 featured report, “They are just following the Florida Department of Education guidelines prohibiting all alcohol-based products in classrooms.”

Dr. Jay Reubens, founder of SafeHands, Inc, noted that SafeHands' is both alcohol-free and non-flammable, which addresses the safety issues in Lee County and similar concerns voiced across the country. In Boynton Beach, Florida, Hagen Road Elementary School Principal  Richard Hughes noted, “Although they encourage handwashing, they are telling students to leave their hand sanitizers at home.” Hughes added, "You shouldn't have that type of agent in the school setting, because it is flammable and poisonous.”

SafeHands' “Lights Out for Alcohol Sanitizers” video can be viewed on You Tube. This one-minute video shows a SafeHands spray extinguishing a blazing alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

SafeHands proprietary formula uses an approved, germ-killing agent that has been scientifically tested and proven superior to alcohol-based products in germ killing, non-drying, skin smoothing and non-flammability.

The company will soon introduce its alcohol-free instant hand sanitizer as the “ First Multiple Daily Use Instant Hand Sanitizer.” This product will be marketed primarily to industries such as food service and healthcare that require their workers to sanitize their hands throughout the day.

Continuing, Dr. Reubens said, “It is generally an unknown but proven fact that the repeated use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers throughout the day can actually increase hand contamination”. The other more visible effects of the most commonly used hand sanitizers, which can contain up to 70% alcohol, are red, dry and cracked hands due to alcohol’s stripping away of the skin’s natural oils.
