Cost Per Use
SafeHands® vs. Purell
Twelve subjects familiar with the use of Purell Hand Sanitizer were asked to apply a normal-use amount of Purell on their hands. The typical amount of the application was noted and the subject was asked if they could continue to apply a like amount repeatedly. The subject was then given a new 2 ounce bottle of Purell and asked to count the applications until the bottle was used up completely.
Subjects were also asked to do the same with SafeHands, a new alcohol-free hand sanitizer. SafeHands is a water-like liquid that is dispensed with a foaming pump applicator. One brisk push on the pump delivers a consistent amount of product in a visible foam mound on the hands. Each subject determined on their own that one pump was sufficient to cover their hands.
Total application numbers for each product were tallied. Results of the tally and the average applications per 2 ounce container are indicated in the following table:
