Flammability Test Results

SafeHands® vs. Alcohol Based Products

The Video Test links in our web site, resulted in the following conclusions:

Instantaneous Combustion Occurred - When a match was placed on the various, Alcohol-Based Gel Soaked Materials (Fabric & Carpet); as you will see clearly in the VIDEOs, there was visible heat radiation, with actual visible flame; and boiling was evident and visible. While our web site trials were not statistically computed, tests were performed using standard, retail, off-the-shelf, bottles of branded-alcohol based, consumer and commercially available, hand-sanitizing gels.

“The Combustion of Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizers Can be Compared to NAPALM, As Both Have Similar Ingredients and Burning Patterns … ”
(…Fire inspectors have stated - According to Clore – 2002)

A 2003 risk-modeling study by The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association determined the likely risk of placing and storing alcohol products in egress hallways. ASHE found that “single containers installed in an egress corridor should not exceed a maximum capacity of 1.2 liters for alcohol-based instant hand sanitation solutions in gel/liquid form." The purpose of the modeling analysis used by ASHE identified the maximum capacities allowable and clarified the potential risk with placement of alcohol-containing dispensers.

Past NFPA Life Safety Codes had prohibited the placement of alcohol-based hand sanitizers in exit corridors because of concerns that the alcohol hand sanitizers may serve as an accelerant in the event of a fire and block access to exits. In 2000 NFPA recommended the installing of dispensers in exit corridors if various code standards were met. While the flammability potential of alcohol-hand sanitizing products is generally minimal, only because they are typically used by individuals in small quantities.

However, alcohol is a very flammable liquid (and gel) accelerant, and the use and storage of these type products should be regulated by Private or Public Fire Safety Standards. These products SHOULD NOT be dispensed or used near any heat sources, electrical spark, flash flame or other ignition sources. Dispensers containing alcohol based products should not be located in the pathway, egress or exit! Finally alcohol-based products should be stored in a cabinet or room in accord with acceptable fire safety regulations.

And we are quite pleased to confirm SafeHands, has ABSOLUTELY NO Flammability nor combustible capabilities or properties. Under any conditions whatsoever, including; commercial storage, the household, at manufacturing or shipping. SafeHands® is confirmed - 100% Safe anywhere, anytime, from flame or combustion!
